I explored the ‘Interview Project’ web page. I saw it as a innovative idea that was a compilation of videos from average American townspeople who are struggling financially and are lacking in family togetherness.
The interviews would usually consist of their upbringing, what they did for jobs, controversial events in their life and what there dreams and aspirations would be in the future.
It is very interesting hearing personal stories of struggle and triumph. Very cool idea that i shall consider for my own project.

Mcluhan explored the idea that specific content is read in alternate views. Movies/TV have a single direction and left the viewer to be subjected to the information provided to them. The moving image is not able to be altered. Books are interpreted differently with the different demographic that read it.

The band Relapse of which I recorded also wrote this track. This song followed a similar structure to their other song featured at Audio file 2. I used Pro Tools as the application for mixing and editing the tracks. The three band members of Lachy on guitar and vocals, Tom on drums and Andrew on bass make up the band. I recorded this song fairly the same as Audio file 2. I created a guitar track, which set out the foundations of the other recordings that followed. The vocals were double tracked in this song to give it a wider sound scape and a larger overall sound.
When I had to master the tracks I used EQ’s and balanced the highs, mids and lows to give the tracks all space in the mix and make it sound lively and not too bassy or trebly. I also made sure there was no peaking in the tracks so I used a compressor plug in on each track to maintain that threshold and stop the song from distorting. The whole process of recording and mixing and mastering the song took one and a half hours to complete.
This was another enjoyable track that I wanted to use as one of my audio files. I developed different ideas and strategies on how to structure a song when recording. We reconstructed the chorus’ and verse’s and attempted to create a structure to the song that worked and that we all enjoyed. It really gave me a greater knowledge of how to structure a song but how to maintain the rhythm and continuity.

This track was created using the soundboard of Jack Black and an electronic drum track. I used Pro Tools as the application to mix and edit the tracks.
The process of creating these tracks began with the recording of the Jack Black soundboard. I used a microphone that was to pick up the signal that was playing from laptop and recorded it onto Pro tools to edit and mix. I created the drum track for this piece by using my midi controller and the Instrument rack on Xpand on Pro Tools.
The reason I chose this as one of my audio pieces was because I wanted to express my appreciation for the simple and easy creation of songs using sounds found on the Internet.
Similar methods were used when constructing this song to the ‘Live band’ piece. I used loops at the middle of this track to give it liveliness and a sense of rhythm. I gave the track liveliness to it once the drums play. It gives it the energy and balance so that the track of the soundboard doesn’t does not make the song sound dull and uninteresting.

This is a song written by a band called ‘Relapse’ of which I record in my home studio. Their influences include bands such as Foo Fighters and Nirvana.
The reason I chose this as one of my pieces of audio is because I want to express my appreciation for this music. I also wanted to provide an outlineThis is one of many songs they have recorded and two of which are pieces of audio I have chosen to use.
I used Pro Tools as my application for mixing and editing the tracks if it needed. The song consists of a rhythm section, lead section, bass, drums and vocals. We recorded the song by layering tracks and we started by recording the whole guitar line to set the foundation for the recording. I created an audio track and a click track that was set to the right tempo so that the guitarist was able to maintain the speed that was needed for the drum track that followed. Drums were recorded followed by recording the bass and vocals. The vocals were double tracked in the chorus line to give it a larger sound scape and to assist the overall body of the song.

This track was made with the intention of replicating a regular house song and its structural elements. I love this particular genre of music and the way it’s constructed to build energy and life when it’s played. I set out to make a regular full length song using VST instruments and Minimoog Synths. I made this track under the influence of artists that included Boyz Noise, Yusek, Surkin and The Bloody Beetroots. These artists have all used similar techniques and methods to create there own sound. I have been following their musical style of house and electronic for a while and I wanted to create a track that would express my interest in those genres.
I attempted to interpret a regular house vibe in creating this track by using methods such as side chain compression and using synths and samples. I used Ableton Live for my software for editing and mixing the track.
There were many similarities between the artists I mentioned that influenced me in the creation of the song. There tracks all had a fairly similar BPM and they all had the foundation of two instruments in them. These included drums and a bass synth. The drums always featured a kick and snare. I recreated this method by developing a simple beat and assisted its presence by adding a side chain compressor, which is made to pulsate the sound of the instrument it’s applied to. The side chain compressor is a main feature in all the tracks I mentioned that influenced this piece as it provides a feeling of energy and excitement in the music. After creating a solid drumbeat throughout the track, I developed a bass synth sound that gave it a body and some energy. I layered the tracks and created build-ups to the main section of the song to also maintain the energy and excitement in the song.

This piece was an accumulation of a number of ideas of which I had in the beginning. I attempted to convey my main idea of repetition of a number of clips into a structured song. I found this hard to do
This is a piece I put together using footage of two of my recent gigs that I had with my band. I used footage from both my acoustic band and my Indie Rock band. My main intention was to make a structured song by using a mash up of several clips that I captured from the two pieces of footage. The clips would be compiled together and repeated in sequence to provide a steady beat or rhythm.
The reason I chose this method for my second multimedia file was because I ultimately wanted to make a fast paced video remix. I acted as if I had a turntable mixing the video to give it rhythm.
I used Final Cut Pro for the creation of my piece. I developed the piece using the cutting tool and text with fade ins and fade outs. This piece was difficult to create, as it was hard trying to determine what beat I was looking to maintain throughout the piece. I used my drum beat, in all the clips, as guidance but in a few clips the drums were at a complete different tempo and song speed. I had to shorten the shots to just sudden impacts such as the loud ‘Yes’ from the vocalist that was assisted by my hit on the crash cymbal. This clip was the main feature of my piece as it was my original idea to have something similar to it repeated over a number of times to give the piece a beat. The clips I used were easy to manipulate although it was hard to find a clip that would assist in creating the overall song I was trying to develop.

The photo Montage is a creation of a portion of my day. It is a collection of photos of items that I touched held or used over a period of four hours. I attempted capture the main subject of my activities which were driving, socialising and eating. The photos I took were close up images of my hand in frame with the object I touched.
My main intention was to capture the amount of times a person uses their hands in daily activities.
The methods I used to create this piece were to maintain the same duration between each image so as not to emphasise one particular moment. The duration timing I used was 1.2 seconds between images. My intention with the very short duration between images allows for a flow effect that provides a story line to a daily routine.
The inclusion of the sound of drums embedded in the collage of images provides a rhythm to the overall piece. It also provides a repetitive notion to match the repeating images.
The photo montage was created using Final Cut Pro to develop the sequence. I imported the images and manipulated their duration using the cutting tool. The overall process of the exercise was fairly simple and didn’t take very long to do.
